Ask Audrey: Bringing the Outdoors In

Dear Audrey: How can you get the feeling of outdoors when you have an apartment with no outdoor access, such as a patio or balcony?

Plants are always a welcome addition to a home, especially if you have limited outdoor access. I love using air plants as much as possible, since they are so easy to keep happy and there are many beautiful varieties. Other natural plants to have around are mosses, grasses and ferns. I especially love the moss artwork (ie moss in a frame).

For a rustic feeling indoors, you could set up a comfy adirondack chair in front of a window for a good reading spot and for relaxing in the sun in the comfort of your home.

If you're lucky enough to have a window where you could add a window box, add some plants right outside your window. Alternatively, you could add a window box to the inside of your room! Using natural woods, and some more outdoor-like materials like hemp or linen, give an interior the feeling of being outside.
